Are you attempting to put colour to work for you without first understanding its nature?
A costly mistake! Save the expense of both time and colourants by truly understanding the fundamentals of colour mixing. This course will provide a basic understanding of exactly what colour is and how it mixes to give us the millions of variations we see. Students will create their own 12-part colour circle, understand complements and the three dimensions of colour. A must for anyone who works with color.
Course Description
Nature keeps it simple when it comes to colour, and you'll be surprised at just how easy duplicating the colours of your world can be.
This course offers a holistic approach to understanding how, but more importantly, why, nature mixes the spectral hues to create the millions of subtle colour variations we see. By understanding nature's use of colour, you'll discover your "colour connection" and harmony with your environment and the importance of colour in your life.
Through hands-on colour mixing experience, students will mix the spectral hues, create their own colour circle, understand and mix values and chroma's of each hue, understand and mix complements as well as their neutral grays, mix blacks and browns, and, by the end of this course be able to effortlessly mix, match, and understand every colour they see.
learn the secrets of colour mixing and matching
The impact of colour is inescapable. It is the visual element human beings always perceive first. Your paintings, designs, layouts, compositions, and interiors have the best chance of reaching their fullest potential when the colours are "naturally right".
What if you could understand the nature of colour so clearly that you could achieve any effect you desire? Now, you can.
see colour in a whole new light
When you attend Colour Mixing and Matching, a three-day workshop developed by Kathryn Kalisz, master colorist and fine artist, you will be able to do just that. In fact, you will get answers to questions about colour mixing you didn’t even know you had.
create pure, satisfying hues
The only way to truly understand colour is to create it. That's the premise of this workshop, and why you can count on an intimate setting and a maximum of eight participants. For three days, you learn to work with colour at its most fundamental level.
You will be introduced to the eye-opening and entirely repeatable method of creating pure and luminous colours, you may wonder how you ever tolerated the frustration of a trial-and-error approach. By the end of this workshop, you will know how to create and duplicate every colour in your world - with confidence.
acquire highly coveted colour knowledge
Of course, in order to create colour, you must first be able to understand its true nature. Without a doubt, this is where the ultimate value in attending this workshop can be found: Kathryn has devised an uncomplicated process for achieving controlled and deliberate colour mixing and matching results. You will benefit from her years of experience as a Munsell colourist and her first-hand knowledge of scientific colour principles, and you aren't likely to find such a comprehensive foundation in a traditional art or design school. In fact, most schools view this as specialized knowledge, and don't cover it in their programs at all.
build custom colours—and your confidence
Kathryn's methods are so clear that you will actually have more time to maintain your creative focus. Whether you are already working with colour for artistic, aesthetic or design purposes, or just starting out, this workshop will make it virtually impossible for you to slump into worry that you lack the true ability to mix and match colours in the way you envision.
step into your creative footprint
In this workshop, you will learn why it can be counterproductive - even discouraging - to attempt to emulate the colour work of another. If you would rather devote more time to manifesting your creative ideas than guessing at which hues to mix to achieve a desired effect, this workshop is for you. After all, it is rarely the number of hours you spend that determines whether people remember your work.
where color harmony fits in
Before you know it, you will also begin to understand how harmonious colour palettes can be created "from scratch".

This workshop is for architects, faux finishers, fine artists, graphic designers, interior designers, interior painters, image consultants, landscape designers, make-up artists, photographers, stylists, textile designers, web designers ... and anyone else who works with colour to meet an artistic, aesthetic or design objective and wants to enhance their ability to make skillful choices and recommendations.
